One of the most challenging things I have had to face head on is developing confidence, while I know teaching is my passion I believe that makes it that much scarier. Standing in front of a classroom and making decisions that impact students sounds intimidating and although I am not there yet I am already working on plan after plan as I know that I cannot just have one plan and hope everyone goes with it. I as the teacher must be flexible with my methods and vigilant enough to know when one is not working. I have had to learn that it is close to impossible to automatically get it right. For others who may be struggling with the same thing I would suggest not putting so much pressure on yourself as long as your heart is in the right place and you strive for student success it will all work out. While I of course still struggle with confidence levels I know that once I get through school everything will fall into place as it should for I trust that I truly do have good intentions. C...

I believe that in order to be an effective teacher you must have a certain set of natural characteristics lets discuss three of them: empathy, patience, and strong communication skills. These may sound like basic skills to some but in reality many struggle with these things, it is important to continuously work and build on those skills.  A teachers empathy level needs to be at a point where he or she has the ability to genuinely understand students feelings, backgrounds, etc in order to build the trust that it takes for a student to learn effectively. Understanding a child's background allows teachers to respond thoughtfully to the student rather than too harshly or not stern enough. Every child is different and have different struggles so it is important for teachers to not only know the child but to understand them and that takes a lot of empathy and sometimes a lot of patience. Patience is another big characteristic needed as students learn in many different ways and at m...

Global education allows students to grow in several different ways by exposing them to perspectives and cultures that may not be in their immediate environment. Socially is encourages students to gain empathy and respect for people of all backgrounds. Emotionally global education helps students build self-awareness and compassion, especially when students learn and understand global challenges such as poverty. Academically it strengthens the critical thinking of students especially as they analyze global issues from multiple different perspectives. Ethically global education pushes students to think about fairness and justice. I believe overall it is important because some students may not have a clue what it is like to struggle like some of their fellow classmates, people they may encounter in the future, or even their future selves. So being able to understand and instead of judge emphathize is extremely important.

Educators have an important responsibility to help students learn how to navigate the vast amount of information available online. Teacher should guide students in developing digital literacy skills such as identifying, credible sources, recognizing bias, and distinguishing between factual information and misinformation. In the classroom, this can involve modeling how to research effectively. Which will teach students how to verify sources, and encourage critical thinking when students encounter information online. Educators also help students understand the importance of academic integrity by showing them how to site sources and avoid plagiarism. This responsibility matters now more than ever because student students have an immense amount of access to tons of information through the Internet but not everything on the Internet is valuable or true. False information can spread quickly, especially through social media. Which can make it difficult for students to know what to trust...

Anna Stricklin Teaching Trends One current trend in teaching that is exciting yet also challenging is "approaches to learning" the focus is student-centered learning such as self-directed learning and inquiry based learning. This is significant because schools in recent years seem to not be very student-centered in the past with the majority of lessons being based on memorization and test prep this new direction is based on critical thinking, communication, and problem solving skills or in other words things that will help in the real world. Approaches to learning allow students to have a sense of independence in their education and reflect on how they learn best. While this is the best for the students I could have some challenges. The main challenge I believe I would face would be balancing giving students the independence they need while also keeping them on track by meeting standards. It will be difficult as some students will not automatically be comfortable with self-d...

Student Diversity

Student diversity is of course a gift, this being said I can expect that my students will be different from me in ways such as family structure, socioeconomic status, family structure, learning styles, religious beliefs and the list goes on. To better understand my students in order to help each student learn as best as they can I will work on building friendships with them, with the end goal of obtaining respect and trust. My goal is to make my classroom as comfortable and safe as possible, when students walk in they should not be full of dread, feeling a bit nervous for a test in normal but feeling uneasy about going into a classroom every single day in unexceptable. When I speak to my students I will allow for plenty of time for them to reflect and respond, during instruction I hope to build enough respect with my students that they want to listen and do not feel forced or trapped. If needed I could also learn more about specific students through family communication but I woul...

Blog (Window and Mirror)

Anna Stricklin If I were to teach a lesson on one of my favorite hobbies, it would be the gym. Lessons on why the gym is beneficial and should be a stress-free outlet would be the window as it gives students knowledge on experiences and lifestyles that they may or may not be familiar with. Some student may have no clue what the physical and mental benefits of exercise are. Through my lesson students would have the opportunity to learn about health, goal setting, and mental discipline. All in which would help in an academic setting. This lesson would also allow students to see their experiences reflected working as a mirror. Many students may already be active/athletic by playing sports so this topic may spark or validate their interests. When students are feeling seen/validated and understood they are more likely to engage in class so it is important to incorporate benefits and reason for all student students.
